Services are the building blocks of your booking and availability setup on It's Complicated. They define what you offer, how long sessions last, how much you charge, and how clients can access them. You need at least one service set up before you can create appointments or display availability on your profile.
To manage your services, go to Settings → Services.
Your services overview
The Services page shows all your existing services, along with their type, price, and whether they're embedded on your profile. You can reorder services by dragging them — the order here reflects how they appear on your public booking page. Click the ··· menu on any service to edit or delete it.
Creating a new service
Click Add Service in the top right to create a new service. You'll be asked to configure the following:
Service name and type
Give your service a name that you will recall while booking — for example, "Individual Session" or "Free Initial Call". Then select the service type: Individual Session, Couples Session, or Intro Call. The type determines how the service is categorised on your profile and in the booking flow.
Delivery method
Select all the ways clients can access this service — online via video call, in person, or text/chat. You can select multiple options. This determines which modes clients can choose from when booking.
EAP availability
Toggle Available for EAP bookings if you want this service to be available to clients booking through an Employee Assistance Programme (Workplace Mental Health Programme). Leave this off for standard private sessions.
Calendar colour
Choose a colour to identify this service in your It's Complicated calendar. If you offer multiple service types, colour coding makes it easy to see at a glance what kind of sessions you have scheduled.
Pricing
Select a price type and set your rate. There are four options:
- Fixed price — a single set rate for the session.
- Sliding scale — a minimum price that clients can choose to pay above. Useful if you offer income-based pricing. Services with a sliding scale will show a sliding scale badge when presented on your profile.
- Non-billable — for sessions that won't be invoiced, such as free introductory calls or supervision sessions. Non-billable services are always free and won't appear in invoices or unbilled items.
Duration and timing
The Timing section controls how appointments for this service are structured and offered to clients:
- Duration — how long each appointment lasts, in minutes.
- Break duration — a buffer added after each appointment to allow time for preparation, notes, or rest before your next session.
- Start time interval — how frequently booking start times are offered to clients on your booking page. The default is Auto, which uses the total blocked time (duration + break). Setting a shorter interval — for example, 30 minutes for a 60-minute session — gives clients more flexibility in choosing a start time that works for them.
- Minimum notice — how far in advance clients must book. For example, setting this to 24 hours means clients can't book a same-day appointmen
Insurance types
At the top of the Services page you can select the types of payment and insurance you accept — Private payments, Private Insurances, Public Insurances, or Reimbursement. This information appears on your public profile to help clients understand whether their coverage is accepted.
Embedding services on your profile
The Embedded toggle on your services list controls whether a service appears as the default availability calendar on your It's Complicated profile. Turn this on for services you want clients to be able to self-book. Leave it off for services you only set up manually — for example, a session package you discuss and arrange directly with a client. If you have setup availability calendars for several services, clients will be able to choose the specific service they are booking on both your profile and on your personal booking page.
See Setting up your availability and booking link for how to configure your working hours and share your booking page with clients.
